Colour is wave lengths of light..........

There are 3 Primary colours and they are: RED- BLUE & YELLOW by using colour we add interest to the image. These Colours are pure colours as they are not made up of any of the other primary colours.

The secondary colours are: ORANGE - GREEN & VIOLET to get the secondary colours you would mix two of the primary colours together.

The Tertiary colours are: Red/Orange - Yellow/Green - Blue/Yellow to get the Tertiary colours you would mix primary with a secondary colour.

To get a natural colour for example BROWN you would mix one or two primary with a secondary colour. By using Colour in our pictures and we can create a sense of warmth or cold. Warm colours such as Reds & Purples would give a warm feeling and blues and light colours give a cold feel airy.

This is a Triadic Colour Wheel that's shows the different colours you would get by using a primary colour and mixing it with a secondary colour.

TRIADIC CHART

A technical term for colour is hue. We can add a hue to saturate a picture to make it lighter or darker. By saturating the picture with more colours there is more intensity and you would look at the image and it would stand out more if you wanted it to. You could do this when taking the picture or when you are post editing.

Below is an Analogous Chart that shows colours that are opposites from each other for example the red is a pure colour - Primary and the Red Orange & the Yellow Orange are Tiredly Colours making the green. Red and Green complement each other and are not normally put together this would make an image stand out more just like Purple & Yellow would in my image below where the letters in Yellow stand out because the purple behind is so dark yet the yellow letters have been saturated to make them stand out.

ANALOGOUS CHART

My image taken on our task to get Complementary colours I used the purple and the yellow on this sign as an example.

Here are my other pictures I have taken for the colour project showing the Primary, secondary & Tertiary patterns.

This image below is a red sofa in the hallway - This is a Primary Colour
On this flower there is a lighter shade of yellow when I have taken the picture. Underneath I have edited the image in photo shop by adjusting the curves and then saturated the yellow to make the flower stand out more from the other clours in the picture.

Edited -Sharpened & Saturated in Adobe Bridge

This leaf had a stronge texture & Triadic colour in it.

On this gift box there are two complementary colours RED & GREEN on the ribbon.
Above is my original picture and here I have edited the picture in Adobe Bridge by adjusting the curves, cropping the image then adjusting the contrast.

This is not a great example of colours I was trying to get the red but couldn't get in close enough :(

These shoes have two of the primary & one of the secondary & Tertiary colours in them.

I took a picture of this small fern tree for a natural colour outside a shop there is also a triangular shape in this picture.

By placing this green book in the middle of the red books I was trying to get a contrast of colours but it came out more red & light blue.

These images have been taken on Bonfire night some using flash and some by using Manual mode and adjusting the shutter speed and aperture myself to try and get a bright coloured image in the sky and using the sport mode on the camera as well.

My artistis & Photographers use strong colours in their iamges to catch the eye of the viewer. This can be in a painting or a picture & then edited later in a photograph.

Herbert has used strong bright colours to show emphasis on the models lips to draw the eye to the image and it gives it a strong feel and more impact than just black & White.

In this image there is again not only strong colour’s but shapes that draw the eye around the picture and get your attention and make you look all around it. Herbert was a surrealist artist and he also produced work for advertising companies and magazines. His strong use of colour and shape would make his work stand out.
